© 2008 Dark-Memory of Dark-Memory ProductionsI am so excited to present you, after
eight years of development and thought, the Schreitiere. Please respect the guidlines for the breed and the fact that these animals specifically were created out of my mind and that I would love to have my following artists make their own lupa or stud to breed to this new species.
I ask that you please respect the guidelines if you choose to create your own Schreitier and that you credit the species to its creator, myself, including a link back to this journal so others may create one if inspired by your creation. I love to see what kind of creatures you create out of inspiration of this species so please, note me with your own Schreitier so I can add it to the Schreitier Registry!H O W - T O - B R E E D / C R E A T E

Please comment or note a request to breed to one of my Schrei studs. (I kindly remind you that the only way you would have acquired a male Schrei is through my adoption offer or created a female first and birthed a male.)

Then I will reserve that animal for you until you have drawn, as according to HARPG, the breeding picture.

Upon posting of your breeding picture, I will know that conception has been a success and then remove the stud from service.
After your pup has been drawn, I would love to see him/her so I can place a link to your creation from the NSA registry and from the stud used.
With a Schrei lupa its the same process only I will have to have her reserved for you until you have the pup drawing posted along with the breeding drawing.

HAVE FUN!

If you plan on breeding and its not to my studs, please notify me anyways so I can modify your procedure!

IMPORTANT! There are percentages down below in the breeding section that predict outcome of foal and genders. Please follow these in regards to your pups from your breedings. Just roll a dice or use a number generator.

If you are breeding two different types of Schrei, flip a coin three times for what the build will take after. Heads for whatever, and tails for whatever.

Yes a Schrei can have two pups, but it is normally only one.

If you create a Schrei and register it, and down the road find that for some reason you no longer want it or lost interest in drawing it, please note me and allow me to adopt it from you so I can find a good home for it. I like to monitor my creation.

Age!:
All though Schrei grow and mature faster than their cousins they are known for their very long lifespans. And they may reach sexual maturity at the age of 3-4 yrs but they're not mature adult until age 41. The sexual maturity age is so low to help the reproduction of the species.
1-20 yrs. = pup
21-40 yrs. = young adult
41-60 yrs. = mature adult
61-80 yrs. = older adult
81-100 yrs. = Elder
100+ yrs. = usually deceased.

Although I have provided lineart for you to jumpstart your own creation, I do encourage you to draw your own images and branch out with this idea.
I have provided a lupa and cub lineart to get you started on creating your own Shreitiere. Each artist may only use the line art once when creating their designs to submit to the NSA Registry. The lineart may not be used when trying to claim a adoptable. Other linearts created by other artists are not allowed when trying to submitt a new Lupa, cub, or when trying to claim an adoptable that I will be posted. I wish for you to draw your own work and only want the lineart used to get a start on creating a Shrei. Please credit the lineart if you choose to use it in your artist's comments.
Please note that the reason I have not made the Lupe (stallion) lineart available your use is that to acquire a stallion you must either claim one from the adoptable or first create a Lupa to breed to our foundation studs. Please respect this rule.
Also keep in mind that although I will allow you to use one lineart to jumpstart your creation, the ~
HorseArt-RPG, will not allow you to submit your design using my lineart. It is in their rule book that lineart is not to be used.

[link]BREEDING:
The Schreitiere are very shy creatures when it comes to breeding and will not just match up to any other animal as easily as most horses do with other breeds which takes them longer to even perform a breeding. The chances of a female conceiving a cub is 40%, chances of the pup being male is 20%. Normal gestation for Schreitier lupas range from 4-5 months. Chances of lupa dying in foaling is 35%.
Generally, mating occurs between January and April the higher the latitude, the later it occurs. During the mating season, breeding Schreitier become very affectionate with one another in anticipation of the female's ovulation cycle. The pack tension rises as each mature Schreitier feels urged to mate.
When the breeding female goes into estrus: the period of heat or rut; the period of maximum sexual receptivity of the female. This occurs once per year and lasts 514 days or can be induced for breeding programs. She and her mate will spend an extended time in seclusion.
Pheromones in the female's urine and the swelling of her vulva make known to the male that the female is in heat. The female is unreceptive for the first few days of estrus, during which time she sheds the lining of her uterus; but when she begins ovulating again, the two Schreitier mate. This is a natural process and must be allowed even if a Schreitier is to be artificially inseminated.
The pups, which weigh 2 lbs. at birth, are born blind, deaf, and completely dependent on their mother. The average litter size is 1-2 pups per lupa though litters of 4 can occur (highly rare). The pups reside in a den that the Schreitier dig and stay there for one month. The den is usually on high ground near an open water source, and has an open chamber at the end of an underground or hillside tunnel that can be up to a few meters long. Dens are preferably dug near a gathering of large trees.
During this time, the pups will become more independent, and will eventually begin to explore the area immediately outside the den before gradually roaming up to a mile away from it at around 3 weeks of age.
Schreitier growth rate is faster than that of wolves and horses. They begin eating regurgitated foods after 2 weeks of feeding on milk. By this time, their milk teeth have emerged and are fully weaned by 7 weeks. During the first week of development, the mother usually stays with her litter alone, but eventually most members of the pack will contribute to the rearing of the pups in some way.[
After one month, the restless pups will be moved to a rendezvous site, where they can stay safely while most of the adults go out to hunt. One or two adults stay behind to ensure the safety of the pups. After a few more weeks, the pups are permitted to join the adults if they are able, and will receive priority on anything killed, their low ranks notwithstanding. Letting the pups fight for eating privileges results in a secondary ranking being formed among them, and allows them to practice the dominance/submission rituals that will be essential to their future survival in pack life.
During hunts, the pups remain ardent observers until they reach about 6 months of age, by which time they are large enough to participate actively.
Schreitier typically reach sexual maturity after three or four years, at which point many of them will be compelled to seek out mates.
CHARACTER:
Shreitiere are willing to please but very high energy animals. They do not perform well or even at all in low energy tasks, their minds travel to fast to concentrate on one simple command. They perform best when completing tasks that require constant motion and high concentration. Schreitiere like to be active and challenged.
Even though they are willing to please and can be sweet, this personality has a feral, aggressive taint to it because of their wolf genetics. This species are not recommended for small riders, young children, beginners, or low intermediates.
They are hard to tame, although not frighteningly wild, it is their wolf personality that turn most of them into just paddock mates. The foundation stallion how ever has been successfully trained by Dark and Jay to perform on a variety of levels in many courses.
They also have a velociraptor-like heritage that makes them extremely predatory and they have to be under supervision and never trusted alone with your horses. Although these animals carry the horse gene they do tend to think of their cousins as food and prefer fresh meat to foliage. It is this side of their nature that can turn them into lethal creatures without notice.
COMMUNICATION:
Body Language: Ears flatten when angry/aggressive, point forward when alert or curious, flare in opposite directions when disinterested/bored, lip pulled back in order to pant/show anxiety, lip curled with teeth bared and nose wrinkled to show aggression/warning, eyes rolled to show fright, tail tuck to show submission/cowardice.
Vocalization: A Shreitier can vocalize in hundreds of different ways. Their language includes: whistles, clicks, calls, snorts, growling, howling, short yips, neighing, clucks, and they can even mimmic single human words and repeat them. Keep in mind, all though the Schreitier can learn chose human words, they cannot form sentences with them or repeat them very accurately. Even though limited, this mimicking has come in handy for communication between them and humans.
DIET:
Shreitiere are considered omnivores and can survive on the diet of a horse's including foliage, salt, mineral, plants, grasses, and grains. They do like to eat meat including deer, cougar, coyote, rabbit, bird, squirrel, cat, and even horse. They prefer fresh meat over anything which is why they must be constantly supervised when loose with another horse or domestic animal.
DISCIPLINES:
Common: Cross-country, Endurance Racing, Eventing, Steeplechasing
Possible: Jumping, Level 1+ Dressage
Rare: Halter, English Showmanship, English Equitation
PEDIGREE:
This is important. Please read and follow the guidelines. I ask that artists who wish to create their own Shreitier and want a lupe stud, to create a lupa first, then breed to my stud to get your male. Lupes that do not come from the foundation lupe will not be accepted into the Schreitier registry, which I will start as soon as I get news that anyone has created a Schrei. Please treat this like a real horse line and respect the bloodlines.
After I get some participants I will create a journal specifically for the NSA and it will keep track of offspring and female Schreitier created and the males cubs thrown from the created lupas. Also, refer here when preparing to breed to a Schreitier so you know if the sire is of the true line or not. Any sire not listed in the NSA registry indicates it has not been or submitted as a pure Schreitier stud and therefor your foal from that lupe has a high chance of being rejected at registry.HISTORY:
The Schreitier were a small group that had managed to remain in hiding until scientists caught them back in 1992. This had been a silent project in the USA for over six years until the project was abandoned and the animals escaped back in 2001. Shortly after they stumbled upon Dark's land, Dark Fantasy Farms, and immediately sook sanctuary there. After six months of shy interaction Dark gained the trust of the posse leader and he soon allowed her to work with him. She christened him The Shadower's X and taught him to be ridden like a horse along with the help of her sister Jay.
Dark spent three long years working with the National Horse Association to come up with a registry for Shadow's species. On November 10th 2008, the horse world recognized the creation of the Schreitiere and Dark's stable was allowed to create the National Schreitier Association (NSA).
On November 12th, Jay was able to gain the trust of a small female under Shadow's reign. She named the white animal, Blue Jay's Frosted.
I ask that you please respect the guidelines if you choose to create your own Schreitier and that you credit the species to its creator, myself. I love to see what kind of creatures you create out of inspiration of this species so please, note me with your own Schreitiere! Schreitiere © 2008-2009 Megan Bahus.
